NHS Colonoscopy

Leni was history's eye-witness, which meant he was always ready to push his Arriflex- and often his Bolex as well!- up orifices lesser directors might have blenched at.

No surprise then that he was in the thick of the action when the NHS was subjected to this emergency colonoscopy, following its fiscal haemorrhage.

The operation was a total success. All targets were fully met, even if the patient was later found to be technically dead.

Reality TV

NuLabour were enthusiatic celebrities, and cabinet ministers regularly elbowed their way into top rated reality TV shows such as Love Island and Celebrity Trisha.

Minghella was always on hand to record events, as in this classic from the Big Brother House.

Modern British Cuisine

NL ministers did much to promote Modern British Cuisine, investing substantial public funds in the work of celebrity chefs and many other fine dining opportunities.

Here a senior cabinet member talks passionately about the benefits for Britain.

Boy Band Wannabe

Minghella first met Tony Blair on the set of the Monkees, the sixties TV series based on the amusing antics of a cheeky boy band.

It was the floundering fag-end of the band's career, but Blair had determined he would join and lead them back to greatness. Arriving in Hollywood, he claimed to have bunked off school, hitchhiked all the way there, and shot a man in Reno after dropping six tabs of acid. In reality, everyone knew his parents had paid for him to travel out with the Official Monkees fan club, and he was staying with his auntie in Santa Monica.

Minghella was the unfortunate director on set when Blair made his attempt at pop immortality. Sadly, Minghella was subsequently fired, and didn't work again for nearly a decade.

Hollywood

In 1951, Minghella collaborated with legendary Hollywood special fx man Ray Harryhausen. Together they produced the classic monster flick The Valley of Gordi.

And remember, in those days all those scary looking politicians had to be modelled entirely from Plasticine.

Early Work

During the War, Minghella worked for the Ministry of Paperclips. He wishes he'd thought of this:

Unfortunately, he didn't.
